About the Department

Electronics & Communication Engineering, the discipline that employs the largest number of engineers, covers everything related to electronics devices, data communication systems, and the use of microprocessors and PLC. The discipline typically also designs passive electrical components, usually based on printed circuit boards.Electronics Engineers are needed in such as analog electronics, digital electronics, consumer electronics, embedded systems and power electronics.  Electronics engineering deals with the implementation of applications, principles and algorithms developed within many related fields, such as solid-state physics, radio engineering, telecommunications, control systems, signal processing, systems engineering, computer engineering, instrumentation engineering, electric power control, robotics, and many more.

Electronics engineering aims to intensify the knowledge and skills of the aspirants on the basic concepts and theories that will connect them in their professional work. There are numerous electronics engineer job profiles in the field of electronics engineering. Such as Aerospace engineers, Electro-mechanicalTechnicians, Corporate Businesses, Engineering Firms, Data Communication. Many premier educational and research institutions regularly hire electronics engineers as graduate engineer trainees and management trainees to work on research projects.

What is Electronics & Communication Engineering?

A program that focuses on strengthening the foundation of core engineering discipline while keeping up with the rapidly expanding, dynamic world of Electronics Engineering backed by world-class laboratories and hands-onpractice. Electronic engineering is all about creativity. The wide area of engineering is about designing, making, running, and servicing things that consumers need. Electronics engineering can be a particularly rewarding career like electronics engineering covers a broad spectrum of areas, all under the same banner, and this allows anyone considering a career to choose the one they want. It is also possible to move from one area to another and this guarantee most people a rewarding career for life.

Program Overview- B Tech Electronics & Communication Engineering

Electronic & Communication Engineering is one of the largest and most diverse technological and engineering disciplines in today’s world. This field always co-relates with electrical engineering. In the field of electronics engineering, engineers design and test circuits that use the electromagnetic properties of electrical components such as resistors, capacitors, inductors, diodes and transistors to achieve a particular functionality. The tuner circuit, which allows the user of a radio to filter out all but a single station, is just a wonderful example of such a circuit.

Electronics& Communication Engineering program at Baba Farid College of Engineering and Technology is excellently suited to meet the ever-changing requirements of engineers with courses that combine the VLSI chips, IC, Robotics with engineering. In addition, undergraduates are exposed to the concepts of design including the application of robots in various fields. The program also considers the need for real-world exercise which is why throughout the program time to time it entails Industrial visits, live projects, and a host of hand-on-practice based assignments that give students an opportunity to apply their theoretical concept & knowledge to problems faced on the ground.

In designing an integrated circuit, electronics engineers first construct circuit schematics that specify the electrical components and describe the interconnections between them. When completed, VLSI engineers convert the schematics into actual layouts, which map the layers of various conductor and semiconductor materials needed to construct the circuit. The conversion from schematics to layouts can be done by software but very often requires human fine-tuning to decrease space and power consumption. Once the layout is complete, it can be sent to a fabrication plant for manufacturing.Signal processing deals with the analysis and manipulation of signals. Signals can be either analog, in which case the signal varies continuously according to the information, or digital, in which case the signal varies according to a series of discrete values representing the information.

Required Skillset

Electronic & Communication Engineers play a vital rolein the navigation, sensor technology & communication industry. With advanced engineering skills, experts can lead the design, testing and manufacturing of the equipment that keeps the world running. We can, therefore, see how important it is for Electronics Engineers to possess certain qualities and skills. There are some of the uncommon skills that aspiring Electronics Engineers develop at BFCET:

  • Technical Skills – A good Electronics Engineer should have a level of designing chips and also have good knowledge of components that allows for the identification and solving of engineering problems.
  • Project Management – When problems arise, it is common for people involved in the project on all levels to look to the engineer for guidance and resolution. An Electronics Engineer is able to step up to the task and manage a diverse team of professionals whilst maintaining the confidence of clients.
  • Communication Skills – In Electronics Engineering-perhaps more so than other Engineering fields- the ability to communicate effectively is a highly sought-after skill. Whether dealing with Management or a client, Engineers need to be able to communicate ideas and give direction leaving no ambiguity. They must also be able to listen and benefit from the ideas of others in the team.
  • Critical Thinking Skills – Critical thinking is a broad skill that can be applied to a wide array of situations, but it’s just as important in electrical engineering. Possessing the ability to approach things differently or take a different view of the norm can make a big difference when you are trying to achieve a certain goal with your project.
  • Basic Circuit Knowledge – Electronics design can become a very complex topic, especially where large fabrications are concerned (such as integrated circuits), or even within highly advanced pieces of small hardware, such as those used in LED. Therefore, if you’re to have any hopes of getting to grips with it all, you need to first have a solid understanding of basic circuit design.
  • Enthusiasm for Learning – Although it’s an essential and unforgettable step, having a degree is not the end of the educational role for an electronics engineer; in fact, it’s just the beginning of your active learning journey. Electronics engineering is one of the fastest evolving and fiercely competitive engineering fields, so you’ll need to be constantly up to date.
Job Profiles

Most people relate Electronics Engineering with integrated circuits but it is much more than that. Electronics Engineers are needed not only in fabrication but also in telecommunication, IT, navigation, railways, automobile, architecture, aerospace, defence, etc. From maintaining chips to supervising research and development of electronic devices and technology to designing circuits for computers, Electronics Engineers are required in various fields.

This branch of Engineering is required broadly in two fields:

  • Electronics Design Engineer
  • Communications Engineer

Electronics Design Engineer:

First and foremost job is accountable for providing technical assistance in the design and development of electronic systems; an electronics design engineer formulates test plans and procedures for the same.

They determine the design parameters after researching the latest technologies and feasibility based on product specifications and company standards. Apart from this, an electronics design engineer studies design issues to develop effective resolutions.

Communications Engineer

The most significant duty of a communications engineer is to design and modify electrical communications systems by managing and monitoring the performance of the design and planning team. Along with approving project budgets and timelines, they produce, test and implement designs to enhance existing networks. Communication engineers also undertake site surveys and ensure the timely delivery of services and products.
