The Department of Agriculture is at the forefront of agricultural education, producing students who are articulate and equipped with academic knowledge and practical skills suited to a range of agricultural and rural sector employment opportunities. The department is offering B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture, a 4-year programme. The infrastructural facilities of the Department include an Agricultural farm equipped with farm machinery for providing training to students in all practical aspects of soil, water, and crop management.
Program Overview
B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture is a highly sought-after course that emphasizes both theoretical and practical aspects of agricultural science. The curriculum covers core agricultural subjects, including agronomy, soil science, plant pathology, horticulture, genetics, agricultural engineering, and agricultural economics. The course aims to equip students with knowledge and skills required for various agricultural professions, including research, agribusiness, and farming practices. Through hands-on training in labs and field projects, students gain experience in soil and water management, pest control, livestock care, and modern agricultural techniques.
The program is designed to prepare students for a wide range of career opportunities in both government and private sectors, agribusiness companies, research institutions, and international organizations. Students can specialize in different fields such as agronomy, horticulture, entomology, soil science, and more.
We have a well-established plant nursery, acquainting students with horticultural and floricultural aspects. There are twelve well-equipped labs with the latest equipment, instruments, specimens, and chemicals, providing facilities for soil and water testing, seed quality testing, diagnosing plant samples for diseases and insect attacks, recording weather observations, milk testing, and preparing various milk products, animal care and management, land surveying, etc., to enable students to tackle problems encountered by farmers in farming. We are also putting our efforts into providing research-oriented education to the students of B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture.
Students of Agriculture are performing Live Projects on various aspects like cultivation of vegetables, raising vegetable nurseries, latest techniques like use of leaf color chart, bulb set technique of raising Kharif onion, training and pruning of fruit plants, hybrid seed production, soil testing, collection of live diseased samples of various crops, use of agricultural machinery and equipment, preservation of fruits and vegetables, beekeeping, vermicomposting, etc.
